Chicken Chicken is the clean combination of flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts or whole carcasses of chicken - exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, and entrails.
Chicken is an excellent source of protein.
The chicken Natura uses is tested to be free of hormones, antibiotics and pesticides, as well as chemical preservatives such as BHA, BHT and ethoxyquin. Natura does not add these harmful ingredients, and they are not present in the ingredients we use. This is an important distinction, because manufacturers are not required to list substances that are present in the ingredients when they go into the pet food.
Chicken Broth Chicken broth is obtained by cooking chicken, including bones and/or muscle, much the same process as making a stock. There is currently no specific definition by AAFCO for chicken broth.
Because Natura uses such high quality chicken, this is a high-quality source of fat and protein. Chicken broth adds moisture while enhancing the protein level and palatability of the food, rather than diluting them. Turkey Broth Turkey broth is obtained by cooking turkey bones, parts, and/or muscle tissue. Turkey broth adds moisture and flavor to canned foods and is a good source of fat and protein. Natura uses chicken broth in our canned foods to add moisture and flavor. It is also an excellent source of protein and contains less fat than turkey broth. Brown Rice The whole rice kernel containing the nutrient-rich bran with only the rice hull removed. Rice bran is rich in numerous nutrients like B-vitamins, magnesium, and fatty acids. Dried Egg Whites Egg whites are one of the best sources of protein that can be found in nature. They are also lower in fat than a whole egg since the egg yolk has been removed.
Potato Starch Potato starch is used in our Flex products to hold our meat chunks and flakes together along with egg just like making meatballs in your home kitchen. This is in contrast to the industry norm where a by-product like liver is used as a binder. Carrots Carrots are the roots of the carrot plant, and a member of the parsley family.
Innova dog and cat foods contain whole steamed, carrots which are free of pesticides.
When ingredients are fresh and not pre-processed, they retain all their flavors and important nutrients (including 'protector' antioxidants). Natura uses only fresh, whole fruits and vegetables in our foods.
Apples A member of the rose family, the apple has a compartmented core and is thus classified as a pome fruit. Apples are an excellent source of dietary fiber. About 81% of the fiber is soluble; most of it is of a type called pectin. Apples provide both soluble and insoluble fiber, some vitamin C and beta carotene, and potassium and boron.
Natura uses this nutritious fruit in its whole form to obtain all of its wholesome nutrients.
Oat Fiber Oat fiber is a white, fine-grained dietary fiber obtained through the processing of oats. It is a class of plant carbohydrate that resists digestion hydrolysis.
This is a fractionated grain which results from processing oats for human consumption. It is missing the nutritional value of whole oats. Natura does not use fractionated grains or leftover remnants of human food processing, but prefers to use the whole grain.
Natural Flavors Natural flavors are minimally processed flavor ingredients that do not contain synthetic or artificial components.
In the Natura products that include "natural flavor" in the formula, the exact composition is proprietary. However, it is always made from the same animal species on which the formula is based. For example, the "natural flavor" used in the original EVO formula contains a reduction of chicken meat - much the same process as is employed to create a chicken stock in your home kitchen.
Guar Gum Guar gum is derived from the ground endosperm of the guar plant. It is a gelatinous substance from the legume family that contains protein and polysaccharides. There is currently no official AAFCO definition for guar gum but is considered GRAS (generally recognized as safe).
Guar gum is used as an emulsifier, thickener, and stabilizer in foods. Several studies have found significant decreases in cholesterol levels after administration of guar gum in humans. These decreases are thought to be a function of the high soluble fiber content of guar. Guar gum is highly digestible and has a low caloric content.
Herring Oil Herring oil is the oil extracted from whole herring.
Herring oil provides a rich source of Omega 3 essential fatty acids. Because the herring that Natura uses is of such high quality, the herring oil helps produce healthy skin and lustrous coats.
Sodium Phosphate Phosphorus is a naturally occurring substance that is important in every cell in the body. The majority of phosphorus in the body is found in the bones. The potassium and sodium salt forms of phosphorus are called phosphates.
Sodium phosphate is used to acidify the urine and lower the urinary calcium concentration. This may reduce rash and odor caused by ammonium in the urine. Sodium phosphate is also used as a phosphorus supplement to prevent and/or treat a phosphorus deficiency.
L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate is a more stable form of vitamin C.
Salt Salt is a natural mineral, necessary for life and good health.
Salt provides several essential nutrients, such as sodium and chloride, as well as important trace minerals. The average sodium level in our food and treats is currently 0.9 g/Mcal, which is considered low by industry standards, but still supplies the nutrients your pets body requires.
Choline Chloride Choline chloride is a member of the B-complex group of water-soluble vitamins (vitamin B-4). It is used as an animal feed additive, especially for poultry and swine, to increase growth, reduce mortality rate, increase feed efficiency, increase egg production, and improve meat quality. It is not a substitute for any other feed supplement and has no direct substitutes itself.
Potassium Chloride A chemical compound, KCl, a colorless or white, cubic, crystalline compound that closely resembles common salt (sodium chloride). It is soluble in water, alcohol, and alkalies. Potassium plays various roles in metabolism and body functions. It assists in the regulation of the acid-base balance and water balance in the blood and the body tissue. It assists in protein synthesis from amino acids and in carbohydrate metabolism.
Butter Butter is a dairy product made by churning fresh or fermented cream or milk. Butter is used as a spread, as a condiment and in cooking applications such as baking, sauce making, and frying.
Butter consists of butterfat surrounding minuscule droplets consisting mostly of water and milk proteins. The most common form of butter is made from cows' milk.
Glucosamine Hydrochloride Glucosamine hydrochloride is a compound that occurs naturally in the cartilage cushioning the joints. Glucosamine, together with chondroitin sulfate, is believed to stimulate the rebuilding of the cartilage matrix and to play a role in the fight against osteoarthritis.
Chondroitin Sulfate Chondroitin sulfate is a long chain carbohydrate derived from connective tissue. Chondroitin sulfate naturally occurs in the cartilage cushioning our joints. Given in additional amounts, with glucosamine, it is believed to attract fluid back into joint cartilage, stimulating the rebuilding of the cartilage matrix and playing a role in the fight against osteoarthritis.
Tricalcium Phosphate Calcium is a principal inorganic component of bone. As much as 99% of the bodys calcium is found in the skeleton.
Calcium is a mineral that is found naturally in foods. Calcium is necessary for many normal functions of the body, especially bone formulation and maintenance. Calcium can also bind to other minerals (such as phosphate) and aid in their removal from the body.
Calcium phosphate is used to prevent and to treat calcium deficiencies.
DL Methionine Methionine (dL-Methionine) is a sulfur-containing amino acid obtained by the hydrolysis of most common proteins.
Methionine is a principle supplier of sulfur which prevents disorders of the hair (promotes hair growth), skin and nails. It helps lower cholesterol levels by increasing the liver's production of lecithin, reduces liver fat, and protects the kidneys.
dl-methionine is a chelating agent for heavy metals. It regulates the formation of ammonia and creates ammonia-free urine which reduces bladder irritation.
dl-methionine is an essential amino acid which serves as a urinary acidifier.
Natura adds this supplement to cat foods to create acidic urine. In our dog foods, the meat supplies sufficient amounts.
L-Cysteine One of two naturally occuring sulfur amino acids. The other is the essential amino acid, methionine. Although cysteine isnt essential it can work in concert with methionine to meet the total requirement for sulfur amino acids.
Vitamins/Minerals Vitamins are organic compounds that function as parts of enzyme systems essential for the transmission of energy and the regulation of metabolisms of the body. Minerals are inorganic substances essential for a host of vital processes within the body.
AAFCO regulates minimum standard quantities of vitamins and minerals in levels that pets need to survive. All pet food manufacturers supplement their products with vitamins and minerals. Beyond meeting these minimum requirements, all Natura products contain a complete vitamin and mineral supplement program that helps pets to thrive, not just survive. The minerals Natura uses are chelated, providing three to ten times greater assimilation than common minerals. Our Innova products also contain beneficial probiotic supplements, which are not required by the AAFCO minimums.
Included in our foods are some of the following: Ascorbic Acid, Beta Carotene, Biotin, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Iodate, Choline Chloride, Cobalt Carbonate, Cobalt Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Dicalcium Pantothenate, dl-Methionine, Folic Acid, Iron Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Niacin, Potassium Chloride, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin C Supplement (Sodium Ascorbate), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement (Alpha Tocopherol), Zinc Proteinate
Natura adds these important vitamins and minerals, in proper balance to its foods to ensure that your pet gets all the necessary nutrients for life and good health every day.
